Things to Do in Tucson this April

Children’s Adventure Hour at Presidio Museum
March- April 7th
From 10:30am to 11:30 am, join Ms. Pat through a tour of the Presidio Museum designed just for kids (age 4-8) through a day in the life of early settlers. They’ll learn drawing with natural dyes, crafting wool and clay-bead bracelets and more. The hour wraps up with a coloring activity and story. After the Adventure Hour, guests can stay and tour the museum as long as they like! The Tucson Presidio website has more details.
6th Annual Great Paper Airplane Fly-Off
April 7th
Head out to the Pima Air & Space Museum from 9:00am to 3:00pm for the annual Great Paper Airplane Fly-Off! Kids 6-14 will compete to take home the gold in airplane flight. The day includes pilot training, inflatable obstacle courses and more. Everyone is eligible for great door prizes! More info and registration is available at the Great Paper Airplane site.
Spring Trail Ride at Historic Empire Ranch
April 7th-8th
Head on out and enjoy history, legends, and scenery that entranced audiences of western movies for decades. The Empire Ranch Foundation sponsors the trail ride through the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area. Two rides are available, a morning stretch from 9am-Noon and another in the afternoon from 2pm to 5pm. Costs vary from $25 (if you provide your own steed) to $105 to rent a horse. Register at their site, but be quick, the deadline is coming up!
Cyclovia
April 8th
Sunday, April 8th, from 10am-3pm a section of city streets are closed down to motor vehicle traffic, allowing for bikes to be ridden carefree across our beautiful city. This is by no means a race, or any sort of competition, so come on out and walk your dog, shake about in a hula hoop, or cruise the streets. Just have fun without any pesky cars! Living History Day
April 14th
Once again the Presidio delivers another historical experience for us to enjoy. For just $5 for adults, and $1 for kids 6-14, you can explore their Living History Days, seeing what life was like for settlers living in the Presidio in the late 1700s. April 14th is the day they focus on Southwest Gardening, so if you have a bit of a green thumb and a historian bent, it is sure to please.
Agave Heritage Festival
April 27th – May 6th
This festival runs a week, through the end of April into May. The agave plant is in the spotlight as the fest celebrates it’s commercial, culinary, and cultural importance with talks, tastings, tours, dinners, exhibits and more. Check out the official site at Hotel Congress to find out more!
Blacksmith Demonstration
April 28th, 10am – 1pm
The 4th Saturday of the month features the last blacksmithing demonstration of the season! Tangentially related to our own craft, blacksmithing is the creation of pieces from iron or steel. The Presidio Museum plays host to the demonstration in which visitors can fire the bellows and watch metal be wrought into creations before their eyes! The Presidio Museum is of course home to a number of other events year-round!
Tucson is filled with wonder. You can also just head up to Mt. Lemon for a wonderful day all your own.
