Celebrating Traditionally: Wedding Anniversary Gifts, Flowers, and More
Welcome back to the Stewart Kuper Jeweler blog! Lately we have talked a lot about engagements, showing our readers the ropes in picking out engagement rings, ideas on how and where to pop the question in Tucson. This time around we are going to look far into the future, or towards where so many of our customers are today: celebrating their marriage of 3, 5, 10, or 20+ years! You propose once, but every year you get the chance to celebrate your love and life together. This time on the blog let’s look at traditional wedding anniversary gifts to give you some guidance!
Traditional Wedding Anniversary Gifts
Ever hear someone call their first anniversary the ‘Paper’ Anniversary? What they are referring to is the type of gift often associated with that year of marriage. These aren’t new developments by any stretch of the imagination! Back in the Holy Roman Empire, husbands would give their wives a silver wreath to celebrate 25 years of marriage, and a gold wreath when they reached 50 years together. These practices have evolved and grown to include more for most years, as people love a good tradition (like marriage!)
When it comes to gifts, the longer the marriage, the rarer or more sturdy the material the gift should be made of. From paper to wood, right up to diamonds, show how with the years of marriage the relationship becomes stronger and stronger, and more worthy of celebration!
To make it simple and easy to digest, we created this chart to show the years and different types of traditional wedding anniversary gifts. Take a look!

As you look over that handy, handout you might see some overlap between gemstones and traditional gifts, or in some cases like the 12th anniversary gemstone being jade, yet the gift of jade isn’t usually given until the 35th. Strange right? That’s the beauty of traditions; you can follow them to the T or create your own that fit you and your unique relationship!
Feel free to print this out and keep it tucked away for future reference. If everything goes according to plan, you’ll be referencing it for 80+ years (can you believe?!). If you ever need help finding the right gift to match your anniversary, just give us a call!
