How To Clean Diamonds and Keep Your Jewelry Sparkling
Last time on the blog we talked about what to do when you’re tired of your old jewelry and want to move on, but what about those pieces you are still fond of? This time on the Stewart Kuper Jewelers blog we want to go over how to clean diamonds and keep your pieces sparkling for a long time to come!
Diamonds are the hardest substance there is, but that doesn’t mean they can’t get dirty! There are a few things you can do to keep your diamonds sparkling and free from marring, but should it happen here is some advice on how to clean diamonds.
Handle Gently, and as Little as Possible!
While we all love to hold and admire our diamonds, they sure don’t enjoy it! Our hands have natural oils that will quickly find their way onto the stones. This is a two-fold problem! For one, the oil itself will decrease the brilliance of the stone but it also makes for a surface that dirt can more easily grab on to. Lotions and creams can also leave a residue.
Clean Regularly
As you’d imagine, cleaning your diamonds regularly goes a long way to making sure they are always sparkling. Cleaning diamonds can be done as easily as a bit of water and mild dish soap. Mix a solution of warm (almost hot) water and mild soap. Then let the ring soak for no more than a half hour. Once the soaking is done use a gentle brush like a soft-bristled toothbrush (that is only used as your diamond brush cleaner!) to scrub away dirt.
