If you’re running a bit behind on buying gifts, then this blog is for you! Last time while talking about the wonderful events this December, we hinted at giving your loved one a little something extra this year. This time on the Stewart Kuper Jewelers blog, we are giving you some practical advice with our holiday jewelry gift guide.

Gifting Jewelry for the Holidays

When it comes to giving jewelry for the holidays there are a few things to keep in mind.

Their Fashion Style

Before picking out a piece, consider your significant other’s typical fashion style. Does he wear a lot of suits to work, maybe accented by a watch? Does she prefer small pieces like a fine chain or a couple simple rings, or is she the more classic, the simple diamond studs, or pearl necklace kind of gal? If your loved one already tends to wear jewelry, what kind of material or metal color do they stick to? Keep this in mind before you even begin looking. If a piece doesn’t reflect their style they may not wear it as much as the piece deserves.

Pieces to Consider

Rings

Buying rings at the holidays can be tricky business. Buying a ring for your significant other when you’re not yet married might be a bit of a gamble. The silhouette of a ring box tends to send one very specific idea and when it turns out it’s not that kind of ring, the mood is sure to be a bit awkward.  That said, if you’re already engaged or married, then there are a few things to consider:

  • What’s their size? What finger will they be wearing it on? Left hands tend to have smaller fingers than those on the right.
  • If you’re not sure about the size, can the ring be sized so that it will fit after the fact?
  • Rings can make some illusions with your fingers. Depending on their style they can make your fingers look very different.

Earrings

If they don’t have their ears pierced, then you can skip over this straight away and move on to other pieces. If earrings are an option then the biggest note is to remember and consider their personal style. That will determine what sort of earrings you’ll want to be looking at.

Necklaces

Pendant necklaces are great choices for a holiday gift. It’s romantic, it’s classy, and when done right could be worn all the time. The standard length of a chain is 18” and it’s safe to stick with that. A chain can always be changed later if they’d prefer a longer one. We have plenty of pendants so you can easily get exactly what you like, whether it be extravagant or classic.

Bracelets

Another piece of jewelry that can see everyday use when chosen perfectly is the bracelet. Bracelets can impart distinction on any look, whether they are simple bangles or a chunky gold cuff. Cuff bracelets make exceptional gifts, the open backs allow the piece to easily be adjusted to fit correctly, meaning there’s no second guesswork past ‘Does it match their style?’

Custom Pieces

If you really want to impress, and who wouldn’t, you can always go the route of a custom, one of a kind piece. Whether it be a ring, bracelet, pendant or earrings, when you give a gift of a one of a kind item, nothing compares. That said, these take time to make, so you probably don’t have the time to create one this holiday. There’s always Valentine’s Day just around the corner!

Happy Holidays from all of us here at Stewart Kuper Jewelers! Whether you bought a piece from us or not, we’re happy to have you as clients and readers. We’ll see you in the New Year!
