Welcome back to the Stewart Kuper Jewelers blog! December is here and that means so many things aside from the usual creeping chill! For many it means cozying up near a fire, hot cocoa in their hands, time at home with family and loved ones, spending the holidays together. Yes, in the cold of winter, our hearts often glow with warmth more than ever. That’s why this time on the blog, we wanted to lay out some events in December in Tucson. Our lovely city has so much to offer and if you are looking to entertain family or make new memories, simply check out any one of the following happenings!

December in Tucson – What to Do

December 9th

La Fiesta de Guadalupe

From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun, the community will be celebrating Mexico’s patron saint! The event features outdoor performances by Folklorico and mariachi groups as well as piñatas, raised up every hour for kids to smash. Vendors will offer regional food and southwestern art and souvenirs. Admission is free! Find out more at the DeGrazia website.

December 13th

Wizards of Winter at the Fox Theatre

Head down to Fox Theatre and enjoy a holiday rock event for the whole family! This show features former members from a who’s who of Classic Rock greats. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Rainbow, Ted Nugent Band, Alice Cooper, as well as Broadway vets take to the stage as The Wizards of Winter. The group will be performing a holiday rock opera titled ‘Tales Beneath a Northern Star,’ finding the true meaning of Christmas. The 12 member ensemble delivers a range of musical styles and aptitudes so it’s sure to be quite the show. The show starts at 7:00 PM. Find out more at the Fox Theatre website.

December 15th

24th Annual Downtown Parade of Lights

The Parade of Lights is back! For the 24th year, the whole community celebrates not just the winter holidays but the unique spirit of Tucson itself!  The procession of floats goes throughout a decorated and lit up downtown. There will be Baile Folklorico dancers wearing their dancing lights, dogs on parade, and marching mariachis! The parade will also pass by the nearby festival in the Jácome Plaza, full of food and vendors. Admission is free! Find out more.

Holiday Puppet Show for Kids: Frosty & Friends

Midtown Mercantile Merchants are playing host to this free puppet show! Frosty the Snowman, the Grinch, nutcrackers, and yes, Santa and his reindeer and more will be having a ball! Great for kids aged 2 to 12, refreshments will also be served. Doors open at 1:45 PM, the show begins at 2. To secure your child’s seat, call Midtown Mercantile Merchants at 520 777 7275.

December 21st

Southern Arizona Women’s Chorus Winter Concert

Looking for something a bit more musical for you? Why not head to the Benedictine Monastery where the Southern Arizona Women’s Chorus will be putting on their annual winter performance. The concert starts at 7:00 PM and features Tibetan Sound and Psalms. Find out more at their webpage.

December 29th

Arizona Bowl

December in Tucson isn’t just about the winter holidays. It’s also about… FOOTBALL! Tucson’s very own football festival kicks off at 11:15 AM (MST) at the Arizona Stadium.  The annual post-season ball game pits teams from the Sun Belt and Mountain West conferences against each other. The Arkansas State Red Wolves will be battling it out against the Nevada Wolf Packs. Which wolves will win? Tickets run from $25-$200 and can be purchased from here.

December 31st

New Year’s Eve Dinner and Variety Show

Everyone is looking for how they’re going to ring in the new year, well, we have your first step! The Sheraton Tucson Hotel & Suites is putting on a dinner and show! A full night of non-stop fun features a murder mystery dinner theater, a 3-course dinner from the Sheraton’s Executive chef, variety shows of the song, dance, magicians, then live music! The classic countdown, balloon drop, noisemakers and more are all on hand. Doors open at 7:30 PM, show starts at 8:00 PM. Get your tickets here.
